I'm turning 29 in just a few days, and I've had a realization that seems
very simple, but isn't too fashionable these days . . . I'm a grown ass
woman and should therefore behave like one. As I approach my thirties,
I can't call myself a girl any longer (or play that card for any
of the following: sympathy, mood swings, financial irresponsibility,
general flakiness). It looks like a lot of us have stretched our
adolescences a few years past the expiration dates (Is 28 the new 18?),
so over the next year, between my 29th and 30th birthdays, I will be
focusing on that picture of a "lady" I formed as a child. No more going
to bed without my face washed, no more Snicker bars for
dinner, and no more feeling like a used cocktail napkin in the morning.
Of course, I'll develop some of my domestic skills and work on my
manners, but more importantly, I'd like to feel like a grown-up.
I've got a few ideas of what I'd like to accomplish by June 14th, 2013,
and I'm sure I'll come up with a few more along the way. Hopefully,
I'll wake up that morning, happy to be 30 and a bit more ladylike.
